SpriteForge vs Sprite-AI
- Sprite-AI makes pixel sprites from 32 to 400 px with 4 to 16-frame animations, a free browser editor, an Aseprite plugin and an MCP server. Plans from $8 a month, or token packs from $10 that never expire. 15 free generations.
- SpriteForge works smaller, at 8 to 64 px, with Claude placing every pixel from your palette, and adds Wang and platformer tilesets. Packs from $5.
- Pick Sprite-AI for larger sprites, longer animations or an Aseprite workflow. Pick SpriteForge for sprites under 32 px, tilesets and one palette across a project.
Sprite-AI calls itself "the AI pixel art generator for any game asset" (sprite-ai.art). You describe a character, item or creature, get a sprite, prompt an animation in plain English, and export a sheet for Unity, Godot or GameMaker or a looping GIF.
SpriteForge has Claude place each palette-indexed pixel on a fixed grid at the final size, inside a project whose palette and style every sprite, animation and tileset follows.

Where Sprite-AI is stronger
- Bigger sprites. Up to 400 px, against SpriteForge's 64.
- Longer animations. Up to 16 frames from a plain-English prompt; SpriteForge animations run 1 to 8 frames.
- Aseprite plugin. Sprite-AI works inside Aseprite; SpriteForge only reads and writes .aseprite files.
- More free generations. 15 free generations against SpriteForge's one-time signup credit.
- A refund promise. Its pricing page says "Not game-ready? Full refund." SpriteForge refunds failed generations automatically, not results you dislike.
- GameMaker and SVG export, which SpriteForge does not offer.
Where SpriteForge is different
- Small sizes. SpriteForge works from 8 px and is sharpest at 8 to 32 px, below Sprite-AI's 32 px minimum. Items, icons and 16 px characters are its home.
- Tilesets. 16-tile Wang sets, 49-tile platformer ground and terrain transitions, with a tileset editor that previews the tiling as you paint.
- One palette across a project. Every generation follows the project palette and style, so a set of sprites matches.
- Lower cash entry and no plan needed for privacy. A $5 pack; your sprites stay in your gallery unless you share them.
- A choice of model. Haiku, Sonnet or Opus 5.5 per generation, with the price shown before you start.
Who should pick which
Pick Sprite-AI if you need sprites larger than 64 px, long animations from a single prompt, GameMaker export, or an AI inside Aseprite.
Pick SpriteForge if you work at 8 to 32 px, need autotiling tilesets, or want a whole game's sprites on one palette, paid per sprite without a plan.
How we checked
Every statement about another tool on this page comes from that tool's own website, read on 22 Oct 2026, and is linked where it appears. Where a page did not say something, we say "not listed" rather than guess, and we left out anything we could not confirm on the vendor's own pages. Prices and features change; if something here is out of date or wrong, email support@spriteforge.tech and we will fix it. SpriteForge's own facts come from its pricing code and studio.
