Free pixel art maker, right in your browser

No account · no download · works on desktop and touch screens

Draw sprites, icons and tiles one pixel at a time on a real grid. SpriteForge's editor is the same one our studio uses, and drawing in it is free: no sign-up, no credits, no watermark. Your work saves in your browser as you go.

The editor opens on a sample sprite you can draw over. For an empty canvas, "Start a blank canvas" opens your project: pick a size (16, 32, 64 or custom up to 64) next to + Create blank and it opens straight in the editor.

What you can do with it

Export

Export the current sprite as a clean 1:1 PNG or an 8× PNG for sharing, a sprite sheet of every frame, an animated GIF with your frame timing, a PNG sequence, a native .aseprite file with layers and palette, or an ASCII grid with a palette legend.

Keyboard keys

The keys follow Aseprite, so if you know it you already know these. Press ? in the editor for the full map.

Where your drawings live

Without an account, everything stays in this browser: nothing is uploaded. That also means clearing your browser's site data deletes it, so export anything you want to keep. If you sign in (free), your gallery syncs across devices.

When you want the AI to draw

Everything above is free and stays free. When you want a sprite drawn for you, the same editor has SpriteForge's AI built in: Claude places each pixel on the grid from your palette, so the result is real pixel art you can keep editing here, not a blurry image to clean up. It can also edit a sprite you drew, only inside an area you mark, or add animation frames. AI generation runs on prepaid credits, priced before you start; new accounts get a free signup credit to try it.

Using Claude? The free SpriteForge Editor connector opens this editor from a conversation with Claude, no account needed, and hands your edited sprite back to Claude when you're done.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Drawing, layers, animation, tile previews, import and every export are free with no account and no watermark. Only AI generation and AI edits use credits.

How big can a sprite be?

Up to 64×64 pixels in the editor. That covers characters, items, icons and tiles for most pixel-art games; for larger illustrations a desktop editor like Aseprite is the better tool, and the editor exports .aseprite so you can move between them.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. On narrow screens the tools and the AI panel slide in from the screen edges, and you draw with your finger or a stylus.

Who owns what I draw?

You do. SpriteForge claims no rights to your art, drawn or generated. See the Terms.
